Taiwan - 高雄 ( a short stop over)

9 March 2009

Didn't really explore much in Kaoshiung as this is plan to be a stopover before heading to Hualien for Taroko Nature Park.

Inside the train when Bubu want to take pictures

Visited Dream Mall...this is the shopping mall in the Taiwan Drama Why Why Love...

Ferry wheel...

Night scenary...
Visited this night market
Our hostel is called Kaoshiung 202...per night for 2 pax cost NT500...but hor room and facility very run down and security is bad. I would not recommend backpacker to stay here...allow me to share my experience with you...do bear with me for the lengthy post.
We arrive the hostel at around 5pm...very hungry and the owner Martin is not area at reception area...only put a sign with his contact number...so we call and wait before we could check in...Guess What? We waited for about 30mins before a lady (Fillipino) arrive to assist us in our check in. Seem like no one stay in this hostel and no one man the reception counter. To me it look more like a haunted house than hostel ;0(
At around 11+ when we came back from night market, we saw 3 policeman waiting outside the hostel. We approached them and ask them what happened. They told us that someone calls to inform them that a stranger has trepass inside the hostel. We told the policeman that other than us no one seem to stay here...they went and check inside the hostel and found no one.. Ok...at this point of time we don't really feel comfortable to continue our stay but we thought just need to endure another few hours and we will be on our way to Hualien...so we decided to stay...
There is only one bathroom so we have to take turn to bath, while one is bathing the other one will stay outside to "guard" the toliet. We have a quick shower and decided to pack our luggage when dawn come just pack and go. Ms Goh suggested to block the door with our luggage in case someone break in etc...so we did it.
In the middle of the night, i could hear someone using the key and trying to open the door..i woke up and saw the luggage that blocked the door shaking...feel very scared and worried that he might break in and harm us and was thinking very hard on how should i call the police using my hp...shit what is the country code etc..lucky he finally stop and went inside to his room beside us (i pressume that he is drunk and have mistakenly try to open another door)...i didn't sleep well the whole night cos this "neighbour" of us keeping going toliet and slamming his door. Irritaing, inconsiderate BASTARD!
When dawn arrive, we have a quick wash up ,pack our luggage and quickly make our way out of the hostel. Thanks god that nothing happened to both of us.
In conclusion, it is worth spending a bit more on a safe and good accomodation.

The steps that seem to have no ending and we are getting hungry and hungrier...Ms Goh is catching her breathe...heehee

Before we depart Alishan, decided to take picture with Starbuck shop

The air in Alishan is superb, worth making the trip to come and watch cherry blossom ;0) however quite commercialize...entrance fee costs us each NT150, train ride to watch sunrise cost us each NT210.

Taiwan - Arrival at Alishan

Date: 7 March 2009

We took 8.30am high speed train from Taipei to Chiayi ;0) arrive Chiayi at around 10am took a bus and arrive Alishan at around 2.30pm.

We stay at Alishan Catholic Hostel for twin room cost us NT1200. Value for money hostel with warm hospitality from the caretaker. Below are picture taken from outside hostel and our room...well it's a church
Miss Goh say we must take the weather to show off to people that we endure the cold temperature. Picture abit small and the big thermometer is showing 9 degree.

Our 三菜一汤 which is enough to feed 4 pax..i simply love the bamboo shoot...cost around NT500. I love cute when eating right...heehee

The weather is so cold that we decided to have hot chocolate (Ms Goh) and green tea latte (for me) at one and only Starbuck in Alishan..so shy can see my thermal pant.

Self taken picture to share the scenary with you...ok ok enough of us...shall share with you the scenary.

Mingxian's Birthday celebration

Date : 28th Feb 2008
Time: 3pm onward
Venue: Francis's place

Mingxian's birthday is approaching, as usual we had to crack our brain to think of a place to celebrate his birthday...as this 2009 is a recession year...we decided to celebrate his birthday by whipping up a few dishes for him which is cost saving, meaningful and heart warming.

We are supposed to arrive Francis's place at 3pm, however only Stanley is punctual, I reach at 3.30pm while Ying (the usual late queen) arrive at 4.15pm but forgivable cos she stay the furthest among all of us.

heehee...don't have apron so have to use Kitchen Towel as apron and to prevent my hair get the oily smell i wore a shower cap...cute right...well i'm preparing my signature dish..PORK CHOP..very tasty hor

Ying preparing her Taiwan style LaLa (estimate about 2kg)...lucky she very strong can carry the big pot of lala and water to the stove then drain the water away then stir fry it with her spices...did you realise that we are dressed in Blue top and white bottom which is the color theme for this party.

(Above) the output of our 2.5hours of hard work. Chili crab (prepared by Stanley), Taiwanese style Lala (Ying)), Sambal Kangkong & rice (Francis), Pork Chop (me) and steam prawn (Ying & me). Very sumptuous right

We managed to finish all...impressive hor...Thanks Ying for sacrificing her appearance in the photo by being the photographer...how i wish there is tripod stand.

Mingxian making birthday wish and blowing the candles

Finally, one group photos...fyi, stanley(top right corner) is wearing dark blue not black color.

After all the feasting, we played 3 rounds of Cluedo...very fun.
